Alberto Marsico

Born in Turin in 1966, Alberto Marsico has played organ for thirty years. Alberto was lucky enough to attend a seven day workshop held by Jack McDuff in 1994. This was the turning point of his musical career. Jack McDuff later recorded “Jack-Pot”, a tune Alberto wrote for him, which was later issued in the album “Jack-Pot” (Red Records, Italy 1995).
In 1996 he toured Spain and Portugal with Slovenian drummer Zlatko Caucic and worked with U.S. Soul and blues singers Lannie McMillan, Ollie Nightingale, Linda Young, Beverly Watson and Sharon Clark.

In 1998 he stayed for some time in San Francisco, where he recorded “Hiding in Plain Sight”. He also played in the Bay Area with guitarist Anthony Paule and producer/keyboardist Jim Pugh. He later recorded his first cd as a leader for the German label Organic Music. He fulfilled one of his dreams in 2000: he played a duo concert with Deep Purple’s drummer Ian Paice in Gubbio, Italy.

In September 2001 he traveled to Los Angeles to record two Cds with blues guitarist Alex Schultz, singers Lynwood Slim, Tad Robinson and Finis Tasby and Canned Heat bassist Larry Taylor.

In 2002 he toured Singapore and Australia with italian blues guitarist Enrico Crivellaro. In 2003 he performed throughout Europe with blues singers Tad Robinson and Finis Tasby and headed back to Asia to play shows in both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. In 2004 Alberto was one of the headliners of the Yllas Jazz Festival (Finland) and recorded his second cd as a leader with his band, Organ Logistics. In 2005 he toured extensively in Europe with drummer Alvin Queen and saxophonist Jesse Davis. In 2006 Alberto was featured in a Russian tour with the great blues singer Brian Templeton and was invited to perform at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland with his band Soundsville. In autumn he recorded his third record as a leader with his band Organ Logistics and this time the wonderful saxophonist Jesse Davis joined the recording session as a special guest. In December he shared the stage with the Joey DeFrancesco trio as a guest.

In 2007 he toured with the great Italian drummer Gianni Cazzola and played a duo concert with trumpet icon Enrico Rava. In 2008 he was once again in Los Angeles at the NAMM show, where he performed and presented the new Italian organ KeyB.

In 2009 he extensively toured with Italian trumpet star Fabrizio Bosso and recorded his first DVD as a leader, with Organ Logistics. In 2010 he recorded the CD “Spiritual”  with Fabrizio Bosso , a jazz hommage to gospel music. He also toured with Jesse Davis in many Italian cities. In 2013 he was invited to join organists Tony Monaco and Jeremy Monteiro in a “World Organ Summit Tour” performed in Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok. At the end of the tour he recorded “Jazz-Blues Brothers” with Jeremy Monteiro at the Lion Studios Singapore. In November, the second gospel album with trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso came to life and was released by Verve Records. The title of the CD is “Purple” and was followed by European tour that reached its highest point at the Umbria Jazz Festival concerts.

In May 2014 he played at the Blue Note in Tokyo and recorded ”Jazz-blues brothers” in October, which was released by Verve Records. This event was followed by a long Asian Tour in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Bangkok and Hong Kong. In February 2015 he performed at the Singapore Jazz Festival with Jeremy Monteiro. Alberto releases his sixth CD as a leader in April. The name of the CD is “ 4/4”  and was recorded with his band, Organ Logistics. In November he played at the EFG London Jazz Festival at the Royal Albert Hall with Jeremy Monteiro.

 

Dado Moroni

Edgardo Dado Moroni, born in Genoa, Italy on October 20, 1962, was exposed to jazz music very early, thanks to his parents’ record collection and he started playing piano at age 4.

Basically self taught, Fats Waller, Earl Hines, Teddy Wilson, Art Tatum and Erroll Garner were his very first influences and Dado tried to learn their solos by ear until, at age 11, he met local pianist Flavio Crivelli who gave him a more formal training, also introducing him to the music of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell and more contemporary pianists such as Wynton Kelly, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, Herbie Hancock and McCoy Tyner.

From age 14 Dado started playing professionally all throughout Italy with some of the most important Italian players like Franco Cerri, Tullio De Piscopo, Luciano Milanese, Gianni Basso, Sergio Fanni and Massimo Urbani and at 17 he recorded his first album in trio with Tullio De Piscopo and American bassist Julius Farmer.

In 1987 Dado had the honor to be called to serve as a judge ( the others being Sir Roland Hanna, Roger Kellaway, Barry Harris and Hank Jones ) for the First Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition, won by pianist Marcus Roberts and held at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. and in the same year he recorded his first New York album for the EMARCY label, RON CARTER PRESENTS DADO MORONI ( with Ron Carter – bass, Grady Tate – drums and Gene Bertoncini – guitar ).

In 1988 as member of the Alvin Queen Jazz Sextet, he did a 5 week tour of Africa, organized by the U.S. State Department and in 1991, as member of the George Robert Quartet ( George Robert – altosax, Isla Eckinger – bass and Peter Schmidlin – drums ) he did a 5 month tour that included the U.S.A. , Canada, Hawaii, South East Asia, India and the United Arab Emirates. In that same year Dado moved to the U.S. and became part of the New York jazz scene appearing regularly at the most prestigious clubs like the Blue Note, Birdland, Bradley’s, Visiones, Sweet Basil, both as a leader and a sideman, as well as participating in several recordings.

In 1994 bass legend Ray Brown invited Dado to join fellow pianists Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, Benny Green and Geoff Keezer for the recording of a Cd for the TELARC label entitled ” SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE…THE PIANO PLAYERS” and Dado’s rendition of Coltrane’s “Giant Steps” caught the critics’ attention. In 1995 Dado was invited to perform at the Concord/Mount Fuji Jazz Festival during a three week tour of Japan which also featured the Ray Brown Trio, the Modern Jazz Quartet and the Concord All Stars. Ten years later, in 2005 Dado returned to Japan to be part of the 9th edition of “100 Gold Fingers” a Japanese production dedicated to the piano, which featured Cedar Walton, Kenny Barron, Junior Mance, Ray Bryant, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Cyrus Chestnut, Don Friedman, Benny Green and Eric Reed, along with bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Grady Tate.

In 2009 he won the prize “Top Jazz” for the best Italian pianist and in 2010 he played at the prestigious New York jazz club Dizzy’s Coca Cola at Lincoln Center with his quintet featuring Joe Locke on vibes, Jed Levy on tenor sax and flute, Peter Washington on bass and Billy Drummond and in the same year he signed with American Jazz label Resonance recording  “Live in Beverly Hills ( with Marco Panascia on bass and Peter Erskine on drums ), the first Jazz recording in Blue-Ray. From 2015 till 2017 he led the group Kind Of Bill, with Eddie Gomez on bass and Joe La Barbera on drums, touring Europe with a tribute to pianist Bill Evans. In 2019 Dado toured with EGM Trio with Eddie Gomez and Peter Erskine and in February 2020 he performed in a series of concerts in Israel alongside altoist Rosario Giuliani, in a Tribute to the music of Duke Ellington.

Dado has performed all over the world in clubs, festivals, concerts, TV/Radio shows  touring the U.S., Africa, Asia and Europe and recording more than 60 albums/cd’s , 14 as a leader and ventured outside jazz for collaborations with pop stars Eros Ramazzotti, Tiziano Ferro, Lucio Dalla, Ornella Vanoni, Gino Paoli and Mietta.

Dado’s current projects are the DADO MORONI TRIO with Riccardo Fioravanti on bass and Stefano Bagnoli, LADIES & GENTLEMEN with Eleonora Strino on guitar, Yanara Reyes MacDonald on bass, Enzo Zirilli on percussion/drums and Stefano Bagnoli on drums, TWO FOR YOU ( duo with tenor saxophonist Max Ionata ), MORONI/ERSKINE/GOMEZ EGM Trio, The DADO MORONI/BERT JORIS QUARTET, ITALIAN TRIO  with Rosario Bonaccorso on bass and Roberto Gatto on drums, the KENNY BARRON/DADO MORONI duo and collaborates with the FRANCO AMBROSETTI QUINTET since early 1980.

 

Alessandro Minetto

Jazz Drummer Born in Alessandria on June 23th 1969 begins his music studies at the age of 15 attending the drum classes of acknowledged Italian teachers like: Alberto Bucci, Giorgio Gandino, Marco Volpe, Bruno Astesana and Maurizio Planker. Starts his professional career at the age of 22 performing in Italy and foreign countries.
From ’94 tilt nowadays, He performed live in many foreign countries such as Holland, Brazil, Viet Nam, France, England, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Switzerland, Etiopia, Japan and in all Italy.

He played in several festival such as: London Jazz Festival, Jvc Festival Torino, Villa Celimontana, Ha-Noi European Jazz Festival 2002 (Viet Nam), Iseo e Clusone, Aosta , Eurojazzfestival di Ivrea, Brescia, Valtellina Jazz, Udin&Jazz, Terninjazzfest, Umbria Jazz Winter, to name a few, and in many important european theaters and clubs like Ronnie Scott’s London (with the great Steve Grossman),Duc Des Lombardes Paris, Blue Note Milano, Casa Del jazz Roma, Bimhuis Amsterdam and the Blue Note in Tokyo.
